This 4×6” prayer card features an image of my original hand-painted oil painting, Haven. In it we see Mary’s Mantle surrounding three young children as they learn, pray, and rest. The Catholic prayer on the back was specifically created for mothers and was born out of a single phrase I said daily when dropping our first baby off at daycare. I worked the first year after having our oldest, and had major separation anxiety when dropping him off. I would just go back to my car and weep…
Eventually, the words “Mary be a mother to him when I cannot” came to me and provided so much comfort from Our Lady and trust in Jesus’ words on the cross “Behold your Mother.”
The intercession of Our Lady is so real and beautiful. I praise God that my kids have another mother to turn to when I’m not available (either physically or emotionally.) I pray this prayer may bless other Mother’s, reminding them that Our Lady holds their children her Mantle, and invites all mothers to rest there as well.
