ORIGINAL 5x7" "Visitation" Charcoal Sketch
This is an ORIGINAL charcoal sketch featuring the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to her Cousin Elizabeth. This piece was heavily inspired by my favorite Advent carol “Maria walks Amid the Thorn,” which sings of Mary walking to her cousin Elizabeth’s along a path of thorns, and leaving a trail of roses behind.
I’ve thought about this meeting in scripture a million times over, and I feel like there is something new to be learned each time…
I’ve felt the sting of shame for all the times I have not gone “in haste” to those in need.
While simultaneously rejoicing for all those who have come quickly to me in mine.
Perhaps the healing balm we are seeking lies within these few things:
Charity towards our neighbor.
Assisting the afflicted despite our own afflictions.
And, most importantly, offering praise to Our Lord in all circumstances.
“The Lord hath done great things for me and holy is his name.”
I invite you to spend some time with this passage today, and especially the words in Our Lady’s “Magnificat” today.
