ABOUT THIS PIECE:
Inspired by the historical icon, Our Lady of Tenderness, I wanted to create my own painting which not only portrayed similar tenderness between the Blessed Virgin Mary and Christ, but which would also work as an invitation for viewers to enter into that tender embrace as well. When praying with this piece, you will see that Christ not only clings to His mother lovingly, but also stares at us with solemn eyes as an invitation. An invitation to cling to His Mother. “Behold your mother” he says to us. (Jn 19:26-27). She will hold us just as she held the Christ Child. And she will carry us straight to Our Lord if we but return her embrace.
