Memento Mori Art Print

from $15.00

This 5x7" art print is a reproduction of my original Memento Mori charcoal drawing.

Memento Mori is latin for “remember your death” and has been historically used by Christians as a means of meditation on the inevitability of death. It is NOT to be confused with the millennial phrase “yolo” which implies living life fast, selfishly, and often recklessly. Rather, memento mori reminds us to use our time on earth wisely: seeking virtues in the daily life, reconciling with God through the Sacrament of Confession, offering penances not only for our sins but also for the sins of others. Memento Mori reminds us that life exists after death, so we must make great use of our time here on earth.

In this particular piece, the cross on the forehead represents the desire to always have Christ on the mind.

The lilies represent Saint Joseph, asking not only for a happy death but also for his intercession in a culture which normalizes sexual sin.

The lilies curve around the head like a halo in hopes that with purity of mind and heart, we too can be numbered among the saints one day.
