This 5x7" art print is a reproduction of my original black and white charcoal drawing featuring Mary Magdalene.
This picture of Mary Magdalene was commissioned by a Patron Saint Club member who wanted a piece to follow the tradition which connects Mary Magdalene to Mary of Bethany.
The piece was to capture a moment of reflection during the Triduum, particularly after Christ’s death but before his Resurrection. Here, she is holding a jar of perfume, recalling the moment she anointed her Lord’s feet with expensive perfume. (John 12:3-8)
The commissioner wanted her eyes to be cast down in humility, yet a subtle smile on her face to suggest perfect peace and hope that can only be found in Our Lord.
She is not despairing at the death of Christ, rather, full of hope that Jesus is who He says He is.
