Saint Marianne Cope Art Print
This 5x7" art print is a reproduction of my original sketch featuring Saint Marianne Cope, patron saint of the outcast.
In a time when leprosy was prevalent in Hawaii, and those who contracted it where essentially exiled and left to suffer and die alone, Saint Marianne Cope chose to leave all the comforts and safety of her monastery in New York and tend to the needs of those who contracted this terrible disease in Hawaii. She devoted 35 years of her life joyfully caring for those who suffered, and spreading the light of Christ to a part of the world which seemed very dark indeed. While there, she established the Island’s first hospital. She also sought to bring beauty and color to what seemed like a dark place/situation by distributing colorful scarves and dresses to the Islanders.
May we seek to be like Marianne Cope, bravely leaving our places of comfort to bring color and beauty to the darkest of places.
Saint Marianne Cope, pray for us!
